What Is A Destination Wedding Photographer?

What is a Destination Wedding Photographer? Ever wondered what happens when a camera-toting nomad crashes weddings around the world? Enter the realm of destination wedding photographers— rogue storytellers who don’t just capture love; they chase it across borders and through exotic locales.

Chasing Love in Every View: The Thrill of New Venues for Destination Wedding Photographers

For me, being a destination wedding photographer the allure lies not just in capturing love but in the ever-changing canvas that each new wedding brings. It’s like being handed a blank sheet and told to paint a masterpiece, with the venue as the backdrop.

Imagine this: one week, you’re navigating the grassy hilltops underneath the Swiss Alps with your eloping couple, the next, you find yourself in a French Chateau wandering through the manicured grounds filled with colorful flowers. Each venue is a fresh challenge and an opportunity to create something uniquely beautiful!

Being a destination wedding photographer, you aren’t confined to the same set of backdrops or the familiarity of a hometown venue. (Although Bend, Oregon does have some pretty beautiful wedding venues too!) I thrive on the unpredictability and excitement of new locales. From historic castles to lush vineyards, urban rooftops to tropical islands—the diversity of venues is not just a perk but a driving force.

Every venue comes with its own personality, and as a photographer I relish in the exploration. Scouting for hidden corners, chasing the best natural light, and envisioning how each space can be transformed into a visual narrative for the couple. It’s not just about taking photos; it’s about understanding the nuances of the location and weaving them seamlessly into the love story.

The joy of discovering a new venue isn’t just about the aesthetics—it’s about the stories that unfold within those spaces. The laughter that echoes through ancient halls, the intimate whispers against the backdrop of a breathtaking landscape, and the shared moments that become an indelible part of the couple’s history.

So, the next time you see a destination wedding photographer enthusiastically scouting a new venue, know that it’s not just a picturesque setting; it’s a fresh canvas waiting to be adorned with the brushstrokes of love. For these photographers, each venue isn’t just a stage; it’s an opportunity to create a visual symphony that encapsulates the essence of a couple’s journey against the backdrop of a world that’s as diverse as love itself.

As a destination wedding photographer, the thrill of adventure is as much a part of my toolkit as my camera. There’s an unspoken understanding that wherever love decides to unfurl its wings, that’s precisely where I want to be.

Travel isn’t just a part of the job; it’s one of my first loves. Passport stamps are like a trail of breadcrumbs, marking the incredible stories of love I’ve had the privilege to capture. From bustling cityscapes to serene mountaintops, and everything in between—I’m not just a witness; I’m an active participant in the global symphony of love.

Outside of photographing weddings, I have traveled to many incredible places including:

Bali, Indonesia

Phuket, Thailand

Mexico including, Cancun, Tulum, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan

US National Parks such as Zion, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grant Teton, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Arches, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Joshua Tree, Canyonlands, and Haleakalā on Maui.

& of course all over the United States, even Alaska and Hawaii

So yes, I loveeee to travel! Growing up, we would do probably 1-2 big road trips a year as a family, sometimes 10 of us crammed in a minivan for hours a time. I loved it. Some of my fondest memories are laying on the floor in the back of the van underneath the back seat with my portable cd player listening to the same 11 songs on repeat daydreaming about exploring the world. Now, here I am doing just that.

So, why Destination Weddings?

Since the beginning of my wedding photography career, I have lived in Bend, Oregon photographing weddings and elopements in the Oregon area, and even traveling beyond to Washington, and Alaska but mostly marketing as a local Bend Oregon wedding and elopement photographer. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE photographing weddings here in Bend and getting to explore all of what Oregon has to offer for engagements and elopements too. But I want to take my art further! The world is huge and life is so short. As grateful as I am for the local venues in Bend, Oregon, I want to experience more wedding venues across the globe.
